Thought of the Day – 2/25/22

I have been thinking of purpose a lot recently. Generally, the purpose of the West has revolved more and more around the individual in an ever shrinking whirlpool of self-centered obsession. For much of Western History, there were larger collective interests that helped us forge nations, philosophies, and empires. Whether it was the rise of Christianity, of country, or of values like Democracy, we in the West were driven by a sense of purpose that was larger than ourselves, and that transcended our individual nature.

What I see as we begin the return to War as the norm is the breaking of hyper-individualism. We are being dragged into a conflict that will require us to unite on common ground against a common enemy. But I am concerned that there is no common ground upon which to stand. The forces vying to globalize the world have to destroy the United States in order to wrench power and freedom away from the individual. And in doing so, I believe that they have created an opening for authoritarians like Putin and Xi Xinping to commandeer that cause. And I for one would hate to see a world government dominated by China and Russia.
