I am willing to have a discussion with anyone. I wish to be thoughtful, to be open to changing my mind if presented with a reasonable argument. But those on the neo-progressive left are not interested in such things. I saw this meme float across my timeline recently.
I care more for liberty than I do for safety and fairness, but I am willing to at the very least talk to someone who values safety and fairness. I’m more laissez-faire when it comes to people’s lives, but over the last few years we’ve had people grow accustomed to a “my way or the highway” mindset.
It becomes clearer and clearer that the few remaining bridges connecting the two “sides” of this cold civil war are being burned. Once they go, then there is no telling what the other guy is saying. The language has diverged so much already that unless we can re-established common meaning, conflict is inevitable.
