The Duality of the Authoritarian Left: A Libertarian Perspective

For a group of people that proclaim to be empathetic, I continue to find that they are some of the most vicious and hateful people out there. They are quick to proclaim their virtue and signal how righteous, good, empathetic, and kind that they are, but when you disagree with them, those quickly disintegrate and are replaced with ad hominem attacks, slander, yelling, screaming, and character assassination.

I mean of course the authoritarian leftists. This is not to be conflated with liberals, moderates, or Democrats in general. This is a specific cross section of the political spectrum that proclaim that we should respect and believe “all” women, and defend the firing of Gina Carano for saying something that was politically incorrect. It is the group that signals that Black Lives Matter, but do nothing about the black communities that were ravaged in the riots over the summer. They are the folks that proclaim Republicans like Ron DeSantis to be the devil himself while Andrew Cuomo and his staff hid information from federal investigators out of fear.

We are in an ideological civil war. The Authoritarian leftists are rushing at lightning speed, blitzing all the institutions in which they have a foothold of power to expand their reach, and implement their version of “democracy.” These are the folks that believe that you, the individual, are not smart enough, kind enough, or empathetic enough to run your own life effectively. They think that minorities are incapable of doing for themselves what white folks are capable of. And they believe that the institutions that exist now are corrupt down to the foundation and must be torn down, to be replaced by new institutions that conveniently leave them atop the heap.

I think they are misguided. They think I am evil. This fundamental difference in position allows them to consider things that I would never. How easy it would be to follow the logic to its conclusion. After all, it would be doing the world a service to rid it of such evil people. If another country was doing what we’re allowing to happen in our own backyards, we would be sending troops. But we have lives to live, families to feed, people to take care of. We’re too invested in our way of life to risk it. I think about the scene in Avengers Endgame where Tony Stark tells Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, and Scott Lang that he got his second chance, and that he couldn’t risk it to save the people who were lost. So many people are in that position. Sure, what is happening right now is bad, but it isn’t effecting me, so I’ll let it slide.

We are being forced to choose. To stand or to kneel. Those who stand will be destroyed. Those who kneel will be destroyed later.

I have begun to see that we’re heading toward a processed cheese style of country. All differences must be crushed, pulverized, disintegrated, and pasteurized in order to make our society function. Our differences are no longer thought of as helpful, beneficial, or attractive, but rather scary, alarming, malicious, and dangerous. Individualism is no longer a value, but a vice.

If good people do nothing, then all is lost, and the authoritarians will end up in power. And when the authoritarians are in charge, history shows us how long a trail of death and destruction follows. Don’t allow them to tell you who is human and who is sub human. Once the thought that a group is subhuman, then they can be blamed for all the problems of the world. This scapegoating only escalates, because, after all, the logical conclusion would be getting rid of the pests. We are at the tipping point, and once the snowball starts rolling down that hill, it can’t be stopped until it either crashes, or runs out of steam.
