Biden’s Brave New World

For what it’s worth, I have no clue who the hell is going to win the election. The polls were wrong in 2016, but they show Trump at near a double-digit or a double-digit deficit against Biden. The pollsters have said that they fixed the issues, but who’s to say. I’ve heard and read about secret Trump voters and people who are afraid to say their political positions. But who knows?

This election will be consequential regardless of who wins, but let’s hypothesize for a minute and go down the rabbit hole. If Biden wins, I believe that there will be a fracturing of the coalition that thrust him into power. The central uniting tenant of the Democratic alliance is their visceral hatred for President Trump. This alliance is comprised of environmentalists, LGBTQ+ activists, BLM activists, BDS supporters, Antifa, Never-Trump Republican refugees, warhawks, atheists, democratic socialists, and traditional Democrats. But what happens when this amalgamation gains access to the levers of power? Who becomes the dominant faction within these disparate groups? Who’s to say? And that’s what worries me.

The Antifa and BLM crowds believe that the system needs to be torn down due to systemic racism. The warhawks want more US involvement in the Middle East and the world at large. The environmentalists want to cut off air travel and fossil fuel use but decry the use of nuclear energy. The BDS crowd wants Israel to fend for itself surrounded by Iranian surrogates who call for the death of Israel. The atheists wish to rip away any vestiges of Christianity from our society and replace it with a quasi-religion with government at the center. The Democratic-socialists want a centralized government that controls the means of production and redistributes wealth to those they deem less fortunate, and the traditional Democrats and Never-Trumpers want everything to stay the same, but with them in charge.

And so here we are. There will be a schism in the Democratic Party as they vie for control. Is it going to be the Clinton and Pelosi corporate Democrats who win out? Or is it going to be the ideologues like AOC and Bernie Sanders that win the day? If I had to bet I would say the corporate Democrats win out, but it will be a bloody battle. My concern is that the BLM/Antifa crowd won’t go quietly, that they believe that the corporate Democrats really want to bring about the changes they are pushing for. But the traditional and corporate Democrats will look at them and just say thanks, without actually intending to change anything. This of course will cause the hard-left authoritarian types to rebel, and the American people to see what a sham all the outrage from the Pelosi types really is, but it will be too late.

Biden gets elected, and he doesn’t finish his first term. Either he retires or dies in office, leaving Harris in charge, a perfectly executed bait-and-switch for the American people. But who’s to say. I hope I’m wrong. I hope that if Biden wins, everything settles down and we can finally let cooler heads prevail. But honestly I don’t think it will. My worries are that Trump will be arrested and indicted on some BS charge and that finally sets off people on the right and then off we go to a second civil war. I told you it was down the rabbit hole, didn’t I?

Regardless, I will work on continuing my plan. Get myself out of debt, improve my financial situation, and then figure out how to be left alone in this brave new world of morality policing and performative outrage. And it will be exactly what we deserve.
