I have never felt better than when I have purpose. Whether it is in a job, being able to contribute to the success of an organization larger than myself or improving my skillset to make myself more valuable, and therefore, worth more money. Or in a relationship when I can cultivate a loving, caring relationship that benefits both partners, leading to a family and a lifelong companion to serve and care fore. Or perhaps it is in my hobbies, where I hone my mind and my creative skills to weave a story that entertains others.
What this pandemic, the shutdowns, and much of today’s political issues have to do with purpose. The government’s idea of “freedom” is a free crack pipe, a stimulus check, or “free healthcare.” But any of those things cannot inspire a person to have purpose.
It is incumbent upon the individual to cultivate their purpose. I reflect upon the wisdom of the movie Kung Fu Panda, when the villain finally obtains the dragon scroll, and learns that there is no hidden wisdom to becoming the dragon warrior.
You become what you make of yourself.
