Thought of the Day – 4/25/22

I’ve been taking some time to think. More and more it looks like we’ve come to live in a world of ideological dogma. The neo-progressives have taken more and more totalitarian ideology into their dogma. They are less and less concerned with evidence, whether it is the evidence of their own eyes, or of the gradual revision of history under cover of foreign wars. Eric Hoffer wrote…

I am feeling a bit gloomy today. I think that a civil war is inevitable in some form. We have a tendency in this country to allow things to escalate into a crisis before we decide to do just enough to stave off the emergency. I think that this is likely intentional, and the rationale behind that isn’t difficult to explain. If you have people who believe that within every crisis lies an opportunity, then it is easier to push things off until they reach a crisis level. If you understand that people are more engaged when they are scared or angry, then it makes sense for people in those positions to stoke anger and fear. If emotional people are easier to control, then it makes sense to move away from teaching logic and reason, or to appeal to feelings rather than intelligence.

Those on the neo-progressive side, in my opinion, are the true believers. They don’t engage in honest, good-faith discussions, but rather twist and bend whatever is presented to them to comport with their world view. As Rodrigo Cortes says…

We can only take it one day at a time, one conversation at a time. I hope that I can change minds and at the very least have someone challenge their own assertions and biases. But it feels more and more difficult these days.
