Priorities

The new year has come and gone, and we now have a new administration that says it is focused on “shutting down the virus.” They won their election on the assumption that Trump didn’t have a plan, and promised “100 million vaccines in 100 days.” They want to be considered the party of science. They want to be progressive, and yet at the same time return to “normalcy.” It is an odd contradiction, to make a lot of changes and yet be “normal.”

The American working people and many families are struggling. Millions have been in some form of job limbo for nearly a year, having to deal with the shifting seas of regulations, closures, lockdowns, curfews, mandates, orders, edicts, and issuances of the various county, city, state, and federal governments. Many people have been struggling to keep their jobs, their businesses, and their sanity. They have been fed a steady diet of fear, worry, anxiety, and rage over the last years, and COVID-related versions over the last year. People want to see their families, to visit their friends, to get married, to mourn their dead, and to move on with life. People want to get back to life.

The relief package for the American people won’t be around for another couple of months. The House has impeached the previous president again, and they want to devote their time and resources to trying him in the Senate again, despite the fact that he is no longer the president. This is a move made to bar him from running for election in the future, and is politically motivated. Honestly, the way in which he handled the aftermath of the election was frustrating, and has soured my support for him if he were to run in the future, and I do think that sentiment is shared by many.

But the party of science is using equity to determine who gets the vaccines. The party of working people are putting a moratorium on issuing new licenses for fracking and drilling on federal lands and moving to raise our taxes, and the party that professes unity will re-introduce critical race theory into the government. Fun times ahead.

There will be higher taxes on corporations, which incentivizes them to move to other countries or raise prices. Higher minimum wages will lead to higher prices and cost of living, and the continued reliance on printing gobs of money will further reduce our spending power. All the while, the people sit in limbo, waiting for their government to “do something” about the virus, the economic damage from the shutdowns, and the continued toxic air on social media platforms and in the media in general.

But sad to say, that’s not their priority. They want to make sure that the former president is not able to run again, super high priority stuff, and definitely helpful to the people who don’t know where their next meal will be coming from.
