A year ago. This song was parody a year ago. Now it’s looking like they were proven right. Parents are pushing back against teachers and school employees having classroom discussions about sexual orientations and gender identity. They are requiring schools in Florida to notify the parents of any school action they take to address student’s physical, medical, and emotional well-being. Parent’s don’t want the schools to initiate secret medical procedures like prescribing puberty blocking hormones or implementing gender-affirming “care” without their knowledge.
And the reaction from the left is to deeply tie these behaviors with the gay community. The left that justifies their actions as being “for the children.” They release opinion pieces like this one, decrying the use of the word “groomer,” and the Republican/Conservative expansion of the phrase to include people who want to teach children about gender identity and sexual orientation between the ages of 4-9.
The left is concerned that gay and trans teachers won’t be able to include expressions about their relationships or their identity as a means to help children come to their own conclusions about their gender or orientation. It seems that they believe that children would be more accepting and affirming of others if they only had someone to show them that it’s normal. They wish to do “good” in order to foster the normalization of non-binary and non-traditional orientations and gender expression in our society because many within that community were bullied and abused for their non-conformity. And, on a strictly emotional appeal, that has a very small ring of truth.
But there is so much more to this discussion than just the emotional appeal and desire for acceptance. There is a power play within all of this politicking. There are actors within the left that want to co-opt children from their parents. There are actors within the left who truly desire to normalize pedophilia. There are actors within the left who want to de-stigmatize transgenderism and non-traditional sexual orientation. There is so much gray to it, that our desire for a simple black and white narrative falls flat on its face.
But there is an undercurrent of truth to it, a deeper insight that exposes the neo-progressive’s naked desire for power and control. The family unit represents that most basic bastion of opposition to the authoritarian state. It is that loyalty to your ancestry and heritage that must be destroyed in order for the state to take its place as the central figure in the lives of its subjects, and the crucible that balances citizenry versus subjects. In order to undermine that, the state and its actors must break it. And it is far easier to manipulate a child than it is an adult.
Children are now pawns in the culture wars, to be used and manipulated, sacrificed and positioned to draw the opposition into traps. And it is the neo-progressives wishing to do that to further their ends. But I think that it is a miscalculation, and maybe, just maybe, an opportunity for the traditionalists to strike back.
