Millenial Warfare…

Millenials, my generation, has no understanding of reality. We were raised on a propagandistic view of warfare, our military, our history. We were taught to think that everything is under control, that our military always understands the movements and motives of our enemies. We were taught that ammo was plentiful, and that all we needed to do to take a break is to press the pause button. We play in the ranked competitions, where the only thing we have to lose is our status among the gamer community. We celebrate our prowess in the gamification of war and the horrors that it wreaks upon our souls.

Stories are coming out of foreign fighters posting selfies and then getting their units killed. The subreddit r/VolunteersForUkraine posted the following message (I blurred out one bit of profanity)

The idea that we need to throw our accomplishments out on the internet, to signal to our fellow denizens of the interwebs that they are so good in supporting the people of Ukraine against the evil Russian dictator Putin.

The reality is that war is worse than hell. It reminds me of the meme that I see every now and again in my meme streams.

The sad reality is that what we conceive of war is nowhere near what war actually is. It doesn’t turn off, it can’t be paused, it isn’t as simple as you get to go back to a spawn point and try again. It’s not glory, fame, virtue, or good. War is vicious, brutal, full of compromise and destruction. War is a scar upon the soul, and none should seek it.
